Train to Narvik

I started my trip in Stockholm, Sweden (flew there for a company meetup). Started with a 18.5 hour night train to Narvik, Norway.
You actually can’t get there by train from Oslo – the Norwegian train system stops south of that.
My sleeping car on the Vy Nattåg 94 train. Very small, and can “fit” up to 3 (3 bunk beds), but noo thanks. I booked the whole cabin.
Most of Sweden was pretty flat, and the window in my room was a bit streaky, but I had some snacks and enjoyed the ride.
Good night.
When I woke up, we were in nice countryside in Northern Sweden.
Clouds on the ground.
My train!
In Kiruna, the northernmost town in Sweden.
Once we crossed the border (in the mountains) to Norway, we went down along the fjord leading into Narvik.
One of the most beautiful stretches of train line in the world. Definitely makes me want to come back to Norway in different seasons.
Lots and lots of tunnels and snow barriers along this ride, but no snow this part of the year.
First glimpse of Narvik.
Finally arrived in Narvik in the early afternoon. I had to make a quick trek of about a mile through Narvik to get to the bus station.
Some quick pics of Narvik along the way.
Narvik is pretty far away from pretty much everything.
My bus to Tromsø. After I boarded and we left, I found out there was bus stop right next to the train station. Oops.
At least I had my choice of seats.
4 hours on a public bus doesn’t sound fun, but to be honest, it was beautiful, quiet, and really enjoyable.
These pictures don’t do it justice, but I felt like I was in some kind of Norse mythical journey.
First view of Tromsø, Norway.
Very nice little city of 80,000 people, lots of outdoor activities for all. I wasn’t staying though, just overnight.
Norway. Awesome.
Found a nice Norwegian restaurant with salmon roe as a starter..
and reindeer stew with potatoes and lingonberries as a main.
Yum. Hotel, and then in the morning, flew to Svalbard!
